Miles Away

(Gelatin silver print)

This is a series of rural landscapes in black and white, captured by a medium-format film camera. Like many artists, I have an intense curiosity about the world around me. The rural streets are somewhere not too far from where I live in the South Bay of San Francisco; However, their ambiguous form struck me and compelled me to return to them again and again as I sought to capture the mood in these places. I have photographed the landscapes as places in my dreams or the places I have seen in movies from the last century. At the same time, these places appear surreal and intriguing to me and often lead me to doubt their existence and to be curious about what’s happeninginside the houses. I intentionally applied some darkroom techniques to the images to reflect my imagination and vision of the aesthetic aspects of the landscape.

With this body of work, I want to convey to the audience my imagination and
curiosity about these seemingly far-off places.
